Dodgers' Roberts: I don't see Bellinger playing vs. lefties
Cody Bellinger is in jeopardy of losing his starting job.
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts didn't mince words when asked about the struggling outfielder's role moving forward this season.
"For the most part, I don't see him in against lefties. We have other guys that have performed. ... That's where we're at," Roberts said Monday, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange Country Register.
Bellinger is slashing .171/.247/.319 with nine homers and 32 RBIs over 73 games in 2021. He's recorded just nine hits, including one round-tripper, in 70 at-bats against left-handers. During his 2019 NL MVP campaign, he went deep 47 times with a 1.035 OPS across 156 contests while hitting .280/.386/.596 versus southpaws.
The 26-year-old missed time this season with a hairline fracture in his left leg and a hamstring ailment. He also underwent shoulder surgery in the offseason after suffering a dislocation celebrating a home run in the 2020 NLCS.
