Kershaw lands on IL with toe inflammation
Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw was placed on the 15-day injured list because of inflammation in his left big toe, the club announced Saturday.
"There's so much swelling, he can barely move around with it," manager Dave Roberts added, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.
Kershaw left Friday's start against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second inning due to toe pain, which the Dodgers said postgame was because of a bone spur the pitcher has been dealing with for a long time.
The 36-year-old owns a 4.50 ERA with 1.50 WHIP and 24 strikeouts over 30 innings (seven starts) this year. The three-time Cy Young winner made his season debut in late July after recovering from back surgery.
Reliever Joe Kelly also landed on the IL due to right shoulder inflammation.
Los Angeles selected the contract of right-hander Brent Honeywell and recalled right-hander Ben Casparius to round out the roster shuffle.
