Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber was forced to leave Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays with left elbow discomfort, the club announced.

Buddy Kennedy replaced Schwarber in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The 31-year-old appeared to sustain the injury when sliding back into first base on a pickoff attempt by Rays catcher Logan Driscoll.

Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Schwarber has a bruised/hyperextended elbow, according to The Athletic's Matt Gelb. Thomson added that he plans to have Schwarber in the lineup for Wednesday's game, but will make a final decision based on how he's feeling before the first pitch.

The injury put a damper on a historic night for Schwarber after he set a new MLB record with his 14th leadoff home run of the season.

Schwarber is enjoying another excellent season at the plate, amassing an .868 OPS with 35 home runs and 95 RBIs in 134 games.
