- Flyweight overlord Demetrious Johnson will look to continue his reign of destruction against Kyoji Horiguchi at UFC 186 in April. Despite owning a perfect 4-0 record in the Octagon, Horiguchi may not necessarily be ready for prime time, but a relative dearth of credible challengers at 135 pounds (following the John Lineker weight-cutting fiasco) threw him into the title mix.
- A new, non-Horiguchi challenger will likely emerge following UFC 187 when John Dodson and Zach Makovsky square off. Dodson, who owns nuclear warhead-laced fists, would have likely earned a title shot at some point in 2014, but missed a large chunk of time with an ACL injury. A former Bellator champion, Makovsky owns a 3-1 record in the Octagon since joining the promotion in 2013.
- A pair of former title-challengers will battle at UFC 187, when John Moraga trades fists with Joseph Benavidez. Likely the best 125-pounder not nicknamed "Mighty Mouse", Benavidez won't find himself with a title shot should he beat Moraga (two losses to the champion loom large), but a string of high-profile wins could put him back in the hunt by the end of the year.
- Henry Cejudo's dominant victory over Chris Cariaso at UFC 185 vaulted him into the top-10, and a few more victories could earn him a title shot in a contender-starved division. The 2008 Olympic gold medalist is rumored to have his next bout at UFC 188 in Mexico City.
