Alabama's Moore apologizes for late-game antics vs. Vanderbilt
Defensive back Malachi Moore apologized for his actions late in Alabama's 40-35 upset loss to Vanderbilt last weekend.
"I want to apologize to my teammates, our coaches, the fans, our alumni, and my family for the way I acted on Saturday," Moore posted on X Monday. "I let the emotions of the game get the best of me and put myself before the team. As a two-time captain and a fifth-year player, I understand the standard that we are expected to live up to at Alabama, and I failed to do so by acting in a selfish and unacceptable manner."
Moore added: "I came back this season to represent myself, this team, and this university because it means something to me. I am blessed to be able to wear the 'A' on my chest, and I know all that comes with the responsibility of representing this program. I will do better to uphold the Alabama standard moving forward, and I will continue to work and improve while conducting myself in a first-class manner."
Moore showed his frustrations in Saturday's fourth quarter, shoving Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia's head into the ground following a tackle. Alabama's captain also threw his mouthpiece and received an unsportsmanlike penalty for kicking the football. Moore appeared to refuse to leave the game when the Crimson Tide's staff tried to substitute him.
Moore finished the contest with 10 total tackles, including a tackle for loss.
Head coach Kalen DeBoer said Monday that Alabama won't suspend Moore for his actions. And while he didn't condone Moore's outbursts, DeBoer supported his star safety.
"He has had my back and our back since Day 1," DeBoer said, per AL.com's Nick Kelly. "There comes a point too where sometimes as things play out, you've got to have your guy's back as well and understand we all make mistakes, and we all have just got to own up to it."
