Report: Washington State transfer Mateer joining Oklahoma
Former Washington State quarterback John Mateer is transferring to Oklahoma, according to On3's Hayes Fawcett.
Mateer threw for 3,139 yards and 29 touchdowns this year. He also rushed for 826 yards and 15 touchdowns. The Texas native spent three seasons at Washington State and was a three-star recruit in the 2022 class.
In addition to Mateer, 20 other Cougar student-athletes have entered the transfer portal. Head coach Jake Dickert also announced Wednesday that he's leaving the program to lead Wake Forest.
Washington and Oregon State are the only teams remaining in the Pac-12.
Oklahoma went 6-6 in its first year in the SEC. The Sooners have the 19th-ranked recruiting class for 2025, with Michael Fasusi, the second-best offensive tackle prospect, and four-star running back Tory Blaylock leading the way.
