Report: Georgia's Beck unlikely to return for CFP
Georgia will likely be missing its starting quarterback in the Sugar Bowl - and potentially longer.
Carson Beck isn't expected to play in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals Jan. 1, sources told On3's Pete Nakos. The Bulldogs - who have a bye in the first round of the CFP - will play the winner between Indiana versus Notre Dame.
Beck's return this season is considered unlikely as he explores surgery options to repair his right elbow injury, sources told Pete Thamel, Mark Schlabach, and Chris Low of ESPN.
Georgia announced Dec. 9 that there was no timeline for Beck's return after he hurt his elbow in the SEC championship game against Texas. He reportedly has a bruised UCL.
Beck hasn't been with Georgia since the team returned to practice late last week, notes Nakos.
Beck sustained his injury on the final play of the second quarter versus Texas and missed the entire second half. He only entered the game to hand the ball off to Trevor Etienne for the Bulldogs' game-winning touchdown in overtime.
Beck helped Georgia post an 11-2 record in 2024, completing 64.7% of his passes for 3,485 yards and 28 touchdowns against 12 interceptions. He led the SEC in TDs and INTs. The senior is projected to be selected in the first round of the NFL draft.
With Beck sidelined, Georgia is expected to turn to backup Gunner Stockton at QB.
