Porzingis doesn't rule out missing entire season
The New York Knicks may be on the right track for the first time in a long time, but there's no guarantee franchise player Kristaps Porzingis even plays this season.
When asked during the team's media day on Monday if the torn ACL he's still recovering from could keep him sidelined for all of 2018-19, Porzingis replied, "It's really hard to say," according to SNY's Danny Abriano.
"I want to be back on the court as soon as possible," Porzingis said. "But it won't happen until I'm 110 percent and medically cleared."
He added, "There is no protocol for a 7-foot-3 guy," according to The Athletic's Mike Vorkunov.
Porzingis suffered the injury in February. At the time, the Knicks said odds were good he would miss time well into this season. On Monday, Porzingis said he's now progressed to light running.
"There are a series of tests that are taking place to see exactly where he is in his rehab, and as he hits certain milestones we'll continue his rehab process all toward the direction of when he feels 100 percent comfortable, when we feel 100 percent comfortable," Knicks president Steve Mills told the Daily News' Stefan Bondy last week. "We're not taking any risks with him."
