Chad Johnson receives work permit, will be able to play in CFL

Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE / Reuters

The wait is over, Chad Johnson will indeed be able to join the Montreal Alouettes.

It took a number of weeks for Johnson to be granted the work permit. A no contest plea to misdemeanor domestic battery in September of 2012 caused complications and led some to question whether Johnson would be granted permission to work in Canada.

Johnson hasn't played since the 2011 season when he recorded 15 receptions for 276 yards and a touchdown with the New England Patriots. He was with the Miami Dolphins during training camp in 2012 but his arrest led the team to release him.

Whether or not Johnson has anything left to bring to the Alouettes is questionable, but he will definitely bring more eyes to Montreal, with the team hoping the extra attention is all positive.
