Raiders to host Packers in Winnipeg for preseason game

The NFL is heading back to Canada.

The Oakland Raiders will play a home game against the Green Bay Packers in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Aug. 22 in Week 3 of the 2019 preseason, the Raiders announced Wednesday.

Canada hasn't hosted an NFL game since the Buffalo Bills played annual contests at Toronto's Rogers Centre from 2008-13. The Raiders will take on the Packers at Winnipeg's 33,000-seat IG Field, home of the Canadian Football League's Blue Bombers.

"I want to especially thank the Oakland Raiders for the opportunity and their trust, as well as the Green Bay Packers and the NFL," said John Graham, president of On Ice Entertainment.

"IG Field is the home of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and this event could not be staged without the great assistance and support of (Blue Bombers CEO and president) Wade Miller, his entire staff, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. We also want to acknowledge and thank the cities of Edmonton and Regina for their time and efforts during this process."

The Raiders are also set to host the Chicago Bears at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Oct. 6, which will make them the first NFL team to play games in three different countries in one season.
