Jets' Williams fined $10.6K for late hit on Eagles' Hurts
New York Jets linebacker Quincy Williams was fined $10,609 for a late hit out of bounds on Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts in last week's preseason game, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
The incident drew an animated outburst from Eagles coach Nick Sirianni, who was seen shouting in the direction of the Jets sideline. Sirianni said after the 24-21 preseason loss that his anger was directed at the play itself and not toward opposing head coach Robert Saleh.
"I wasn't mad at coach Saleh," Sirianni said Friday, according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio. "I was mad at the situation. I was more mad at the player than coach Saleh. Coach Saleh is a great guy. I have so much respect for him. It was just emotions of the game. I was just sticking up for Jalen."
Saleh called the hit "egregiously awful," adding he discussed the play with Williams following the game.
A third-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019, Williams joined the Jets prior to the 2021 campaign. He recorded two sacks over 13 starts last season.
