Lamar blasts report that he turned down $200M guaranteed from Ravens
Lamar Jackson denied a resurfaced report stating that he turned down a contract offer from the Baltimore Ravens that included $200 million guaranteed, suggesting in a tweet that the proposed deal only guaranteed $133 million for three years.
The quarterback rejected the offer last September, reported ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen, as Schefter reiterated on his podcast Monday.
The Ravens and Jackson have been negotiating a long-term contract for several months but reportedly aren't close to a deal. The star signal-caller, who doesn't have an agent and represents himself, is reportedly looking for a contract similar to the five-year, fully guaranteed $230-million pact Deshaun Watson signed with the Cleveland Browns last year.
Baltimore recently placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson, who will earn $32.4 million if he plays under the tag this season. The two sides have until the July 17 deadline to sign a long-term extension.
Jackson has taken the NFL by storm since the Ravens drafted him 32nd overall in 2018. The 26-year-old, who was named league MVP in 2019, has posted a 62.3% completion rate with 12,209 yards and 101 touchdowns against 38 interceptions over his career to go along with 4,437 yards and 24 touchdowns on the ground. He owns a 45-16 regular-season record.
Injuries have been a recent concern for Jackson, who was sidelined in the final stretch of each of the last two seasons. He's missed 10 games since 2019.
