The Chicago Bears want to interview Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman for their bench boss vacancy, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports.

Freeman has led the Fighting Irish to a 14-1 record this season, including postseason wins over Indiana, Georgia, and Penn State. Notre Dame plays Ohio State for the College Football Playoff National Championship on Jan. 20.

The 39-year-old owns a 33-9 record since taking over Notre Dame's head coach job ahead of the 2021 Fiesta Bowl.

Freeman joins an extensive list of candidates for the Bears' vacancy. Chicago has reportedly interviewed seven coaches and requested meetings with others, including Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores.

The Bears fired head coach Matt Eberflus after Week 13. Eberflus posted a 14-32 record with the club.
