Former Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman is joining the New York Jets' front office in a senior football adviser role, he announced Thursday on CBS Sports' "With the First Pick" podcast.

Spielman, who assisted the Jets' search for their next head coach and general manager, said his biggest job will be to address football operations.

"Right now my biggest project is trying to rebuild the football operation side of things," Spielman said. "So there's a lot of changes going on up there. I kind of feel honored and privileged that they called me and asked me to be a part of it going forward."

He added: "Any way I can help support the football ops side of it, that's technically what my job is going to be."

Spielman served as general manager of the Vikings from 2012 to 2021. Minnesota put up a 87-72-2 record during that span with four playoff appearances.

Spielman said he'll be a "sounding board" for the Jets with new head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey still acting as the "final decision makers."

"I don't need to make the decisions," Spielman said. "I don't want to make the decisions anymore."

The Jets enter the 2025 season searching for their first playoff berth since the 2010 campaign.
