Parsons reports for start of Cowboys' offseason program without extension
Dallas Cowboys pass-rusher Micah Parsons is in attendance as the team's voluntary workouts begin Monday, although he's still waiting for a contract extension.
Parsons is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is slated to earn just over $24 million on the fifth-year option of his deal.
Dallas had planned to talk to Parsons about his inconsistent attendance during the team's past offseason programs, according to The Dallas Morning News' Calvin Watkins.
The 25-year-old skipped the voluntary portion of the Cowboys' offseason program last year but said in December that it was "of extreme importance" for him to be at OTAs and minicamp to build chemistry with his teammates, according to team reporter Patrik Walker.
Parsons is projected to reset the market for all non-quarterbacks when he signs a new contract.
Cincinnati Bengals wideout Ja'Marr Chase did so most recently, signing a four-year, $161-million deal in March. Star edge rushers Myles Garrett ($40-million average salary) and Maxx Crosby ($35.5 million) are currently the NFL's highest-paid defenders after signing extensions this offseason.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said earlier in April that he didn't view negotiations with Parsons as "urgent at all."
Parsons made the Pro Bowl in each of his four NFL seasons and is a two-time first-team All-Pro. He recorded a career-low 12 sacks in 2024, as he missed four games with an ankle injury.
