Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell on Super Bowl play call: 'I wouldn't change it'

Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell received his share of criticism throughout the offseason after a decision to throw a pass at the goal line in Super Bowl XLIX effectively ended his team's hopes of capturing a second consecutive title.

The game-clinching interception - hauled in by New England Patriots rookie Malcolm Butler - has been analyzed in every possible way in the six months that followed. Credit goes to Butler for making an incredible play, but the general consensus was that the Seahawks were better off handing the ball to Marshawn Lynch for at least one attempt at the go-ahead score.

Bevell recently spoke to MMQB's Peter King about the fallout from arguably the most exciting finish in Super Bowl history, explaining that he wouldn't have called the play any differently when asked whether he's been able to move on.

That play we called will always be there to drive me. I wouldn't change it, I think it was the right thing. Coach Carroll has done a great job with it as well. I think to answer your question, in terms of totally moving on, that night is rough, the next morning is rough, getting on the plane is rough, but as soon as I got here and I was able to watch it for myself on the tape and see our copy and look at it that way and do the analyzing of it, once that was over I was able to put it behind me. I'm okay. I really am.

While most will still disagree with the play call regardless of the reasoning, Bevell standing by his decision six months later is certainly commendable.

The Seahawks now begin their quest for a third consecutive Super Bowl appearance, with some bolstered offensive talent to work with under Bevell's watch.
