MLS terminates contract of FC Dallas' Gonzalez amid domestic abuse case
Major League Soccer and FC Dallas goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez have mutually agreed to a contract termination, the league announced.
The move comes two months after MLS suspended the 25-year-old following domestic abuse allegations.
MLS launched an independent investigation in June after the Frisco Police Department received a report that Gonzalez was involved in incidents of domestic abuse in the Dallas suburb.
At the time, the league said Gonzalez had voluntarily entered a program for substance abuse and behavioral health.
Gonzalez, who joined the FC Dallas youth academy as a 15-year-old, had been the team's No. 1 goalkeeper since 2017. He made 101 regular-season appearances for the club and started the team's opening two matches this year before play was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.
