José Ramírez's shot at MLB history was foiled by Mother Nature.

The Cleveland Guardians third baseman missed an opportunity to become only the seventh player to hit 40 home runs and steal 40 bases in a single season after Sunday's game against the Houston Astros was canceled due to inclement weather.

The six-time All-Star ends his year with 39 homers and 41 steals over 158 contests.

"He (Ramírez) was like, 'Hey, I'll do it next year,'" Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said, according to Tom Withers of The Associated Press. "That's who he is. He wants to win. Unfortunately, he just didn't get one last opportunity."

Jose Canseco, Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, Alfonso Soriano, Ronald Acuña Jr., and Shohei Ohtani are the only members of the exclusive 40-40 club.
