Red Sox seeking another opinion on Sale's elbow MRI
The Boston Red Sox have received an opinion from Dr. James Andrews on Chris Sale's elbow MRI, and the team will next seek an evaluation from Dr. Neal ElAttrache before making a decision on how to proceed, according to Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic.
An opinion from ElAttrache should come within the next day or so, McCaffrey added.
Sale underwent an MRI on Tuesday after he experienced elbow soreness following live batting practice Sunday.
Red Sox interim manager Ron Roenicke said the left-hander is "concerned" after talking to Dr. Andrews, according to Guerin Austin of NESN.
However, Roenicke also said not to assume the worst-case scenario, reports Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe.
Sale, 30, was already expected to miss the start of the regular season after dealing with pneumonia to begin spring training.
The seven-time All-Star owns a career 3.03 ERA with an 11.1 K/9 rate, but he posted a 4.40 ERA in 25 starts last season while struggling with injuries. Sale signed a five-year, $145-million extension in May 2019.
