Clase becomes Guardians' all-time saves leader
Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase became Cleveland's all-time saves leader with 150 for his career after finishing off a 10-8 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday.
The 26-year-old passed Cody Allen with his 40th save of the season.
Rank | Player | Saves |
---|---|---|
1 | Emmanuel Clase | 150 |
2 | Cody Allen | 149 |
3 | Bob Wickman | 139 |
4 | Doug Jones | 129 |
Clase also joined Mariano Rivera and Francisco Rodríguez as the only Latin pitchers to post three consecutive seasons with 40 or more saves in MLB history.
"What he's done in the short spurt here is truly special," Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said postgame, according to Tom Withers of The Associated Press. "I'm only here for five months of it. It's just remarkable."
The three-time All-Star has been the best reliever in baseball this year, authoring a sublime 0.71 ERA with a 0.68 WHIP and 55 strikeouts to just eight walks over 63 appearances.
