Report: Cowboys pursuing coach with NFL experience
Embarking on their first coaching search since 2011, the Dallas Cowboys are looking for a candidate with extensive experience as an NFL bench boss and a track record of success, reports ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
Such criteria would eliminate most NFL coordinators and the top names in the college game from the running.
The Cowboys have already interviewed former Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis and former Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy. Lewis went 131-122 in 16 seasons with the Bengals and took Cincinnati to the postseason on seven occasions, though the team never won a playoff game during his tenure. McCarthy was 125-77 in Green Bay and reached the postseason nine times, winning the Super Bowl in 2010.
The Cowboys also had a phone conversation with former Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Rams bench boss Jeff Fisher, a source told Mortensen. However, since Fisher hasn't coached since 2016, he wasn't given a formal interview.
