Report: Chiefs to sign Jeron Johnson
The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly adding depth to their defensive backfield amid Eric Berry's contract holdout.
The Chiefs are set to sign free-agent safety Jeron Johnson, after hosting him for a visit on Wednesday, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Johnson, who played the first four years of his career in Seattle, joins the Chiefs following a season with the Washington Redskins.
The 28-year-old tallied 27 tackles in 2015, while contributing primarily in a reserve role across 14 appearances.
Berry is holding out in hopes of landing a long-term deal in place of his franchise tag. Given that uncertainty, Johnson tentatively steps in to provide much-needed experience and competition alongside Ron Parker, Daniel Sorensen, Jamell Fleming, and Stevie Brown.
