The Denver Broncos signed All-Pro cornerback Patrick Surtain II to a four-year extension, the team announced Wednesday.

The deal is worth $96 million and makes Surtain the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history, sources told NFL Insider Jordan Schultz. The contract also reportedly contains $77.5 million in guaranteed money.

Surtain's reported average annual value succeeds that of Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Antoine Winfield, who previously held the title of highest-paid defensive back in history after signing a four-year, $84.1-million contract in May.

Player AAV
Patrick Surtain II $24M per year
Antoine Winfield $21.025M per year
Jaire Alexander $21M per year

Drafted ninth overall in 2021, Surtain has quickly become one of the NFL's top cornerbacks. He grabbed four interceptions as a rookie with one pick-6 before making the Pro Bowl in each of the last two seasons.

Surtain earned a first-team All-Pro selection in 2022 after notching two interceptions and a forced fumble.

The 24-year-old is expected to be one of the leaders on the Broncos' defense following the offseason release of veteran safety Justin Simmons.
