Report: Raiders to focus on Wilson, Darnold, other veteran QBs
The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to investigate veteran quarterback options that include Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, and Sam Darnold after Matthew Stafford elected to remain with the Los Angeles Rams, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
All three quarterbacks are scheduled to be free agents this offseason.
The Raiders and New York Giants were pursuing Stafford before he and the Rams agreed to a restructured contract Friday. Las Vegas reportedly discussed a two-year deal for the signal-caller that contained $90 million to $100 million guaranteed. Minority owner Tom Brady also had an unplanned talk with Stafford in Montana.
The Raiders have Aidan O'Connell and Gardner Minshew as quarterbacks under contract for 2025, though neither have cemented themselves as long-term options. The franchise also holds the sixth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Fields and Wilson both started games for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024. Fields, 25, went 4-2 before Wilson, 36, went 6-5 the rest of the way. The former threw five touchdowns against one interception while the latter had 16 passing touchdowns to five picks.
Signing Wilson would also reunite him with head coach Pete Carroll, who took the Raiders' sideline job this offseason.
Darnold, meanwhile, enjoyed a breakout campaign with the Minnesota Vikings: He went 14-3 and collected 35 touchdowns against 12 interceptions.
