Bear Bryant's great-grandson could be coveted QB recruit in 2019
Football is in his blood.
Paul Tyson is a high school quarterback from Alabama with goals of being a top recruit for the 2019 class, and he's also Bear Bryant's great-grandson.
"Just to have that name under me; it’s an honor to have that be my great-grandfather," Tyson told Hank South of BamaOnLine. "It’s awesome. It’s a great thing that I’ll always have in my life. It’s a blessing."
Bryant, of course, is a legend in Alabama, winning six national titles with the Crimson Tide and finishing his career with 323 victories. If Tyson decides to head to Tuscaloosa for his collegiate career, the spotlight will no doubt be shining bright.
"It’s definitely been something that’s crazy," he said. "Some people think I’m automatically going to Alabama. That’s not completely true. I’m just starting the recruiting process and it’s awesome. I’m loving it. People definitely think it’s pretty cool who my great-grandfather is, and often ask me questions about him. It’s a great honor."
Nick Saban and Co. haven't extended him a scholarship offer yet, though if they did, it sounds like it would be hard for Tyson to turn down.
"That’d just be an honor," Tyson said. "They’ve always been a good team. That’d be amazing especially with my great-grandfather there. That’d be something special."
