The Washington Commanders are exploring a potential trade for Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson, sources told The Athletic's Dianna Russini.

The Commanders are one of many teams interested in Hendrickson. An NFL executive told Russini that the Bengals would want "significant trade compensation in return" for the 30-year-old.

Hendrickson was granted permission Thursday to seek a trade. He's on the last year of a four-year, $60-million deal and has been unable to agree on an extension with Cincinnati.

The Commanders have more than $79 million in cap space available for 2025, the third-highest in the league. The team has already been active on the market and is trading a fifth-round pick for wide receiver Deebo Samuel. The deal will become official at the start of the new league year.

Washington will look to bolster its defensive core, which ranked 13th in total yards allowed and 18th in points allowed in 2024. Hendrickson had an impactful 2024 campaign and was named a first-team All-Pro after leading the league in sacks (17.5).
